Elijah James Shafer was born on October 22, 2007!! He was 6lb 2oz and scared his momma to death when he almost pulled himself out of the scale!!
He was 2 weeks early so his size wasn't really a surprise, though everyone says that he looks bigger than he weighs... his grandma had to buy him some preemie clothes because nothing we had for him fit!!!
matt and I were both SOOOOOOO appreciative of my mother coming down for the birth and then coming BACK (despite the 3 hour ONE way drive!) when we left the hospital!! I am not sure we would have survived the first week without her....
He went to his first dr appointment on Friday October 26 and he had only lost 4 ounces which isn't bad considering that he didn't eat the first 36 hours of his life because he didn't want to wake up! at his follow up appointment today he had gained back all of the weight he lost and had grown 3/4 of an inch!! It's amazing how fast they grow-- it makes me sad to think that he will never be this little again! :( maybe we'll have to rethink our plan of only having one baby ;) I dont' think EITHER set of grandparents would mind!
We had the BEST nursing staff-- matt was actually on the swim team with our main nurse and had been good friends with her in high school so that was awesome. She took great care of us!!
I went the dr today for a blood pressure check and it wasn't great.. ok it was kinda bad at 147/100... the dr asked me if I had been walking like I was supposed to-- 45 minutes 5 times a week... i laughed and said NO. I know i need to get out there agian, but really i'm not feeling ready for it yet-- maybe tomorrow if it's nice we'll go for a walk in the sub division!
Aunt Joyce and Grandma Jordan came down on Friday and it was nice to see them-- plus it gave me a chance to ask Aunt Joyce a bunch of questions-- it's really nice having medical people in the family-- i'll have to return the favor when I'm finally out of law school and offer legal advice :)
Saturday my mom left, and Jill and Chad came to visit their nephew. We asked them to be
godparents, and I'm not really sure that we actually got a response, but I'm pretty sure the tears said more than words could ;)
Well I suppose that I should try to catch a nap before Elijah wakes up for the night (yeah he's got his days and nights mixed up!!)

I can't help it if baby Eli loves it when his Auntie Jill holds him!!! It was wonderful to finally meet him :-) Now if only Chad and I had been successful in our attempted kidnapping...
